My family and I have lived in the Harbour for almost a year now and we plan to stay here for many years to come. I have been a member of the architectural control committee since February 2006 and I have seen it as an opportunity to become involved in this community. I am a Chief Warrant Officer in the Marine Corps currently assigned to The Basic School at Quantico as the Motor Transport maintenance officer responsible for keeping all tactical wheeled vehicles in a safe working condition. Next summer I will retire after 20 years of service on active duty, and my family and I are staying in the area.
While I enjoy living in this community, one issue I believe needs to be addressed is safety for our families, especially children. We need a place for children to walk safely to and from bus stops; wider roads or sidewalks that allow pedestrians to walk through the Harbour are desperately needed. This, in turn, would alleviate people using the golf cart paths as a walking trail, which is a safety issue of its own. As the days are getting shorter, I have noticed that there is inadequate lighting at several of the school bus stops. This needs to be addressed and corrected before an accident occurs.
My family and I moved here because of the quiet neighborhood, not for the amenities the Harbour offers. While I have not yet used any of the amenities in our community, I plan to as time permits. I understand the significance of the amenities to fellow residents and I believe they are equally important to the Harbour. I do not believe one amenity should take precedence over the others because of representation at the board meetings.
Because I am new to the community I will bring fresh ideas without preconceived notions based on what has been done in the past. I look forward to serving the community and would appreciate your vote.
Thank you,
Andrew Fuller
