Official Communications from the AHPOA

 May 2006 Issue

Communications Committee News – (Greg Stocksdale) (540) 658-6330

Welcome to the first Aquia Harbour Newsletter incorporated into the Harbour View. Thanks to Lynette of Office Creations for giving us this space. The Communication Committee felt that instead of producing a separate newsletter every 60-90 days, it would benefit you, the residents if we combined the newsletter with the Harbour View. This means you get timely information from the AHPOA delivered to your mailbox each month.

The Communication Committee is full of new members working hard to improve communications here in the Harbour. We are currently working on updating our community website and once the site is revamped and updated we will let you know. In the meantime, if you have questions, problems, or suggestions, with regards to improving communications, please let us know. Everyone is welcome to attend our meetings, which are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00PM in the business office. In the meantime, feel free to contact me if you have any issues you would like to discuss. You can email me at AquiaHarbourCC@gmail.com or call me at 658-6330. Greg Stocksdale

    Stable Update – (Patti A. Goettler) (540) 659-5024

Our latest news concerns the three up coming horse shows.  We have shows scheduled for May 20th, June 24th and September 23rd.  These shows will be a little different than last year’s in their format.  We have put in fewer over fences classes, added Trail and Speed events.  This should make these shows more entertaining to the spectators as well as attracting greater numbers of participants.

The shows will start at 8:30 AM with a Grooming and Conditioning class.  This is a great little event that is judged on the handler’s preparation of the horse and their presentation.  It’s a popular 4-H class, but ours will be open to all age handlers.

The Trail Classes will have obstacles that may be found on a trail ride.  The horse and rider/handler teams will have to negotiate these in a calm, willing manner.

The Speed events are where we get to see who has the fastest horse at the show.  Yelling and cheering from the spectators is expected and welcomed!

All Harbour residents and guests are welcome to attend.  Please bring chairs and hats (for sun protection).  There will be food, (GREAT FOOD) available, but picnics are welcome – we do have a couple of picnic tables available.

Hope to see you all there!

Board of Directors - (Bob Hunt) (540) 659-3050 CIP Pay Off

In April, we will make the last payment on the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) loan. The CIP loan allowed Aquia to re-build the country club, develop several new parks (especially the baseball fields at Briar Patch Park), and several other community improvements.  The Board of Directors would like to celebrate the pay-off with a note burning ceremony sometime in May.  Many residents (both elected and volunteers) have been involved with this project.  The Board would like to make sure all the interested parties are involved in this celebration.  Please contact the Business Office and provide a phone number or e-mail address so we can be sure to involve you as we make plans for this great day.

Aquia Harbour Golf Club - (Terry Ryalls) (540) 659-4478

Welcome to our members, old and new, for the new fiscal year.  For those of you who had memberships last year and have not renewed them yet, please do so at your earliest convenience.  We have several plans in place for improvements for the upcoming year which include reconstructing the No 9 green, seeding the fairways with Bermuda seed to allow for implementing the ninety degree rule in the future, and replacing the dividers on the driving range.  We will try to keep any disruptions minimal as we proceed with these improvements.  The work on the fairways will begin around June 1st, and we are planning on starting the green reconstruction the beginning of September.  The timing on the green reconstruction however will depend on the recommendation of the company chosen for the design work.

Our Membership Drive Tournament was a success and the rain only produced a few sprinkles after play began.  Our next tournament scheduled is the Spring Madness Tournament on May 6th.  This is a fun event with a varied format of 6 holes Captain’s Choice, 6 holes alternate shot and 6 holes of best ball.  It is a four-person team event with teams to be computer selected.  The cut-off for sign-up for this tournament is 12:00pm on Friday May 5th.

For those of you who are new to the community please visit the pro shop or call (540) 659-4478 for information about our course, daily rates, memberships, and other services available to you.  We will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Aquia Harbour Marina - (Ron Normandin) (540) 659-4232

Welcome to the start of the 2006 boating season. The slips are filling up quickly with return boaters and we are awaiting new guests as the warm weather approaches.

The new gas dispenser is working fine, 24 hour operation with Master Card or Visa, and a new Coke machine with 20 oz. plastic bottles has been installed at the office. Plenty of ice on hand, and we will strive to maintain a sure supply for the season.

Come out early in the morning and enjoy the Spring awakenings with the water birds, beaver and otter. With the greening of the harbour, your marina comes to life. Welcome aboard, from Captain Ron, your dock master.

Police Department News - (Chief Schwarting) (540) 659-4600

In the past couple of months there have been several incidents of paint throwing in Aquia Harbour. So far the damage has been limited to paint on the street, driveways, trash cans and head walls and has not caused a lot of costly damage. That could change if houses or vehicles become the target. The paint being used is common latex house paint in off white and pastel colors of tan, green, and blue. When the paint dries or cures it is extremely difficult to remove from painted surfaces without damaging the underlying paint. The way the paint is dispersed indicates that it is being thrown from a moving vehicle so there is a good possibility the vehicle being used has paint spatter on it also. The police are taking several steps to determine who is behind this unsightly and damaging vandalism but we need your help. If anyone has any information that may help to solve this case please call the Police Department at 659-4600 or the Security Gate at 659-5224 and leave information on how we may contact you. The information source will remain confidential and anyone providing information will not be required to appear in court.
