By John Reinboldt, Director, AHPOA Board of Directors.
Wanted !! One good person. To fill the Director position vacated by the indomitable Mike Leahy. Mr Leahy sadly leaves our ranks to become a “Bluebird,” flirting between his estates in New York and his compound in Florida. In all seriousness, Mike will be missed. He was always willing to ask the hard questions, and be diligent in the pursuit of truth. Mike is leaving large shoes to be filled. His term expires this year, therefore the appointment would be a short-term position. This is an excellent opportunity to serve and experience the position.
There are many items that can qualify an individual to be a Director: lengthy resume of work, positions achieved, degrees earned or years served in community service. In this Directors opinion, there are a few requirements that overshadow all others. You must be a good neighbor! One who is willing to listen to concerns of others, fight for what is good and right for the Harbour, while maintaining a strong camaraderie with your fellow Directors. Be a consensus builder not a derisive divider. Be honest, and without hidden agendas and above all, strive to be trusted by your fellow residents.
April 20 through 28th is community pride week. On April 27th and 28th a Waste container will be located on Washington drive by the tennis courts. Just in time to save you a trip to the dump! Please take some time to pick up the neighborhood as well. Every little bit helps. No hazardous materials please!
Our web site, www.aquiaharbour.org is continuing to improve. Kevin Henry (our web master) has requested information about some of the teams in the Harbour. As an example, information about our Aquia Harbour Dolphins (who went undefeated last year) will be posted as well as any information about other teams. I think it would be fun to see information about all of our sports and activities on the web page. Please contact Kevin through the web page.
I am sure most of you are familiar with the walking path that begins at the Lions Park and extends to the quarry on Government Island. Recently a multi page document was put together about this historic site. Unfortunately we only just received a copy of this document, so if you are interested in reading it you please visit the Business Office. It is a very good read. PLEASE NOTE, THE WALKING PATH TO GOVERNMENT ISLAND IS OFF LIMITS TO MOTORIZED VEHICLES.
If not, you should give it a try! Our cart paths have never been so nice. Our lead golfer, Ken Laenger (who I understand is a scratch golfer) says the course is the “ best deal around.” A FAMILY MEMBERSHIP is only $300.00. This is an exceptional value. Call our manager Terry Ryalls for additional rates
“When exactly will the restaurant open?” I am not sure of the exact first day of operation. I understand that the Clubhouse Restaurant is going to have a Mother’s Day special call 659-5566 for more info. I’ll see you there!
“Can’t we do something about the properties in disrepair?” I actually received two letters along the same lines last month. A person who moved her a year ago rather eloquently wrote one. D.B. writes (with permission to print):
“Since moving to the Harbour we
have noticed that the HOA Board is
consumed by the wonderful amenities that the Harbour provides. This is
evident in the newsletter with the amenities being discussed endlessly.
However, as I drive though the Harbour there are some homes with cars
parked up on the lawns, broken down cars, (though covered... for the
entire year we have lived here) shutters missing from homes (one for the
entire time we have lived here as well), homes that need painting and
homes with debris in the yard. I could go on............however, there is
no little mention of addressing these basic matters in newsletter.
Mr. Reinboldt, it is my opinion
that we can have the most wonderful
amenities in Stafford but if we are not able to address the basic
aesthetics of our wonderful neighborhood all of your work on the
amenities will be for nothing because the neighborhood around it will be
falling down.”
D.B. is correct on many fronts. We do have a Code Violation Officer (C.V.O.) in the Harbour. His name is Scott Kitts, and he directly reports to Mr. Halt. He is available at 659-3050. I haven’t been as vocal as maybe I should be on this issue. I have been hoping that gentle prodding will do the trick. I would like feed back on this issue. In the 15 years I have been here we have had aggressive enforcement and lax enforcement. I feel if the rule is on the books, it should be enforced. What is your opinion?
