Thank you, to those who sent in comments regarding my last couple of articles. My wish is to bring issues to the community for constructive comment. So far, all the responses have been very helpful, informative and all done in a constructive manner. Some I would like to offer for publication. If that interests you, please let me know. Please keep them coming. My email address is john@reinboldt.com
One issue that was raised via an email is making sure that the storage areas are as secluded as possible combined with reasonable security. That is our goal. We want to offer a service that benefits as much of the community as possible.
Questions from your Neighbors:
Web Page: Do we have a web page? Yes. http://www.aquiaharbour.org It is up and running with updated information. Thanks to Kevin Henry. (Hey Kevin, My picture, Ouch !!)
Litter: “ Are cigarette butts litter?” YES they are.
P.S. There is a handsome fine available as well! $2,500.00
Restaurant: “How quickly are we going to select a new restaurant contractor?”
By the time you read this, one will be selected. The Board has decided to limit the down time of the CC as much as possible and to continue studying the Harbour Inn issues.
Soft Ball: “Will we have Co-ed soft ball this year?” Yes. According to my source, Mike Buccola will again don the cap of League Manager 659-0790.
Dues: “Will the dues go up?” The finance committee is suggesting an increase of $52.00.
I would like it to be $0.00. Unfortunately the cost of trash removal, insurance and a host of other imbedded items have gone up. We are still studying the issue.
Harbour Finances: Is the Harbour in “ dire financial straights?” NO. absolutely not. I can assure you that we are in very good shape. Our treasurer, Joseph Spelman is doing an outstanding job of managing the budget. On the other hand, we don’t have money to burn either. We are carefully planning our long-term investments in the Harbour.
Did you know?
We have 20 foot wide “Bridal Paths” that circle most of the Harbour. (By the way, the Bridal Path is open for walking as well). It begins at the stables and progresses west past Harbour Drive to Columbus Cove then northeast towards the main entrance, stopping between 1022 & 1024 Aquia Drive. The trail picks up from between 1108 & 1110 Aquia drive heading for the creek by the bridge. It picks up once more between 2058 &2060 Aquia drive going all the way around the Harbour to Aquia Creek behind Titanic Drive. Please look at the map on the web page for a better understanding. We are in the process of updating it. Unfortunately the access sites are not marked, and most are in poor shape, as are the paths themselves. In some cases property owners have expanded their yards, and in other cases large amounts of debris have been deposited on the Bridal Paths. In most cases, however, we (AHPOA) have just not done a good job of keeping up with them. If your home borders the Bridal Paths please remove any debris you may have inadvertently put there. If you border an access area please address any debris that may have accumulated over the years. I would like to enlist any potential volunteers who would like to help clear some of these areas. Equestrians, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Family’s or any group that would like to help would be appreciated.
