John Reinboldt - Director AHBOD

September 2003

Aquia Harbour's scribe, Ben Blankenship, opined a few weeks ago about keeping Wright Park. He brings up a very good point. For those of you unfamiliar with Wright Park, it's on the left side of Harpoon just before you get to Coast Guard Drive. (click here go to the map) This park was one of many that sprung up around the Harbour for various reasons. Called "Pocket Parks" by some, they offered nice little green patches that were turned into basketball courts or simply picnic areas. The issue boils down to this. Do we spend the money to rehabilitate Wright Park or do we take those funds and point them towards larger and more heavily used parks. After taking a long look at the issue our Parks Committee believes we should focus our energy on the larger parks. After walking through the park again, I have to agree. The lot is a good size but the park is located up a relatively steep incline, the steps are coming apart, the equipment is worn and in need of replacement. As much as I hate to part with parks or for that matter, a little open space, it is a better lot for a house than a park. What do you think? john@reinboldt.com

BINGO!

We have been discussing bingo for some time now. We sent out a survey some months ago and received substantial support for pursuing the possibility of having bingo games in the Harbour. To date we have two strong groups that have offered support for this endeavor. (They will receive part of the profits to benefit the kids or their good works) The Lions Club and the Aquia Dolphins Swim Team. We believe to have a successful Bingo program, that we will need the support of two more groups.? The actual man power required for each event is only 5 people. The idea is to be able to rotate the groups so we maintain strong support. If you would like to be part of the executive staff or would like to help in some other fashion pleas contact me. john@reinboldt.com

Projects

Aquia Harbour has over 2,300 homes with over 8,000 residents. Aquia Harbour is larger than many small towns with significantly more infrastructure. We manage this very large enterprise with only 26 employees and 7 volunteer Directors. The real power in the Harbour can often be found at the committee level. As an example the Golf Committee decided the Golf Course was better served with a piece of new equipment rather than rebuilding Green #1. My point is that we have some major projects at hand; the Harbour Inn Pool, the Marina docks, the Stables, all need significant attention or replacement. If you want your voice heard, join a committee. Help us make good decisions. At a bare minimum, participate in the voting process that will be at hand soon. Ask the candidates what their plan is!

Pool Survey

There is a pool survey in this issue of the Harbour View. We are also mailing them out and there is one on our website. www.aquiaharbour.org Please fill it out and return it to the business office. This is a good opportunity for your wishes to be addressed. The survey results will be shared with the Pool Committee, and then will become part of the committee's proposal to the board.

Thank you for taking the time to read this article. If there is anything you would like to discuss, please email me at john@reinboldt.com. If you would like the whole board to see your note please advise me, and I will forward it to all.
