OCTOBER 2005 NEWSLETTER ARTICLE

The biannual road paving should be underway or start very soon.  Please watch the front board for details on the work.  This is critical as paving will include the entry road from State Route #1 to Aquia Drive and Richmond Drive .  There will be some disruptions no matter how carefully we plan.  Please be alert and allow extra time to enter/exit during work periods.  We will attempt to do most the most disruptive work at off hours and in the case of Washington Drive work at night.  This may not be possible and will depend on the contractor, cost and the temperature.  We will know more when a contractor is selected.

A golf tournament is on the schedule to follow the Annual Meeting.  See the Pro Shop or talk to a board member for details.  Reminder-  The Annual Meeting is October15th at the Harbour Inn Community Center .

The Stables has had three very successful horse shows this year with one more scheduled for October 15th.  These are sanctioned shows with points awarded so they can be quite impressive.  The new above ground fuel system at the marina should be operational as you read this.  This leaves us with only one small underground tank and almost gets us out from under all the regulatory agencies that monitor them.  The Aquia Harbour Rescue Squad has been given approval to repaint their building.  The faded orange/pink (?) will give away to white.  Bingo continues to wind its way toward operation with a chartered committee guiding it to fruition.  I would look forward to it starting later in the year.  The design for the new Harbour Inn Swimming Pool should be approved as this goes to press.  Look for a new pool of similar configuration with a stepped and zero entry as well as water features.  Anticipate a larger kiddy pool with a water feature and shading.

Recently we have had a spate of complaints about loose and barking dogs.  The law requires that dogs off the owners premise be leashed.  Several recent cases where loose dogs have bitten are now resulting in litigation which will probably be expensive for the owners.  The law also prohibits prolonged or intense barking.  Dogs can be a great joy but entail responsibility.  Please be careful and sensitive to others enjoying a peaceful environment.

We have experimented with having a large trash tote at the country club the first weekend of each month.  Some have abused this to the point it may go away.  The Stafford County Landfill is readily available to county residents.  For those needing directions its 2.5 miles south of the Stafford County Government Complex off Eskimo Hill Road  (turn left) then another 2.5 miles to the entrance (on the left).  Phone number 540-658-8680.  Please take advantage of them rather than leaving things sit around in view.

The multiple purpose playing field at Briar Patch Park will close October 15th for upgrading and "resting" to allow maintenance and to let new grass to get started.  The intent is to augment the soil, lime, fertilize, aerate and overseed.
