JULY 2005 NEWSLETTER ARTICLE
The highlight of the summer will be the
resurrection of the annual 4th of July Parade. The
parade will feature lots of events and fun for all. The
schedule now is to start at the Harbour Inn Community Center and
proceed to Lions Park for activities. Look for more details in
later announcements. Two more horse shows are scheduled at our
stables for September 10th and October 15th.
Our shows are getting to be well known and attended by many
local horse enthusiasts. Here?s a chance to take the family out
for some interesting and inexpensive entertainment.
The new vehicle parking off Dewey Drive is
complete and serving the needs of those using the local sports
fields. Kudos to our Roads and Grounds Crew for doing the work
in house and saving us a bundle. They will now be focusing
their efforts on patching the new potholes and doing the prep
work for this summer?s major road paving. Please slow down and
give them a break, as they must close a lane as they work.
The Harbour Inn Swimming Pool is going to
be nursed along for another summer as the engineers design us a
new pool. One complication is that the lane lines can no longer
be used at the Harbour Inn Pool forcing the swim team to move to
the Country Club Pool. This may cause some disruptions and will
certainly make parking a problem. Home swim meets are scheduled
for June 29th, July 11th and July 25th.
Those dates would be a good time to avoid the area as 100 ? 200
cars are anticipated.
The fate of bingo in the community will be
decided before you read this. The State Charitable Gamming
Commission is holding our bingo license pending enough
volunteers to be trained. Many have expressed an interest in
playing but we are way short of volunteers to be trained and to
actually run the operation. If enough volunteers do not step
forward by the end of June bingo will not become a reality, as
the state will not hold the license any longer.
The marina fuel system will be upgraded to
a whole new system with above ground tanks, new plumbing and
credit card reading pumps. Work should start mid July and is
just waiting proper permitting. Several slips are still
available for those contemplating a boat purchase.
The FRED bus is still serving the community
and riders are solicited. Detailed scheduling is available at
the Business Office. Many residents and the police have noticed
a trend toward higher speeds on our roads. Please watch your
speedometer. Children are out and about everywhere and not
always observant. We don?t need a tragic accident.
Stafford County is upgrading the sanitary
pumping system and adding new back up generators. You may
notice activity especially on Delaware Drive, Dewey Drive,
Foresail Cove and sections of Aquia Drive. Work will take place
this summer.
We still continue to experience cases of
vandalism. These incidents take away much needed money from all
our projects. Please pay attention to where your children are
and what they are doing. Those caught doing damage will be
prosecuted.
