June 2003 Update

President's Review

Two things happened in the last week to remind me of what a wonderful community we live in.

At the last Board of Director's meeting I said in frustration (and some anger), "We are letting our infrastructure fall down around us." This was said in the context of the latest bad news about the Harbour Inn Pool. Thankfully, some resident and several of my fellow Board members quickly corrected me. They were right. We have done a lot in the past few years. As a Director, it is easy to get lost in the trees and miss the forest. There have been major improvements at the marina (new bulkhead), the golf course (paved cart paths), the stables (new paddocks), and extensions of our walking paths. There is more to be done, but we should not overlook the good things that have happened and are planned this year.

Then, as I returned to my house the other day, I passed four young ladies riding their horses down Aquia Drive back towards the stables. They were courteous and seemed to be having a great time. I do not think there is any other community in Stafford that has such a bounty of activities.

Once again, I was proud to live in Aquia Harbour.

But, we do need to address the issues at the pool. I am going to work with the Board to try and insure we take a very proactive approach to fixing or replacing the pool. The first step in the process will include Director John Reinboldt working with the pool committee to try and complete a survey to make sure we understand what the community needs and wants. We have the resources to build a new pool. Let's work together to do it right.

As we make Aquia Harbour look better, we create a better place to live and improve all our home values. As you may have noticed, we fixed the light problem at the front gate. It's much better. The Board is working to get a general landscaping and grounds maintenance contract to help improve the general appearance. And, we will soon begin the long overdue work to repair the bathrooms at the Marina.
